Labor Day is coming up, and you want to spend a fun day with your family. You can pack your day full of activities that even the little ones will enjoy. Check out some fun ways you can get active on Labor Day.
Play Lawn Games
Your family is sure to have a blast playing lawn games in your yard. For instance, you can spend some time playing overhand or underhand catch or kick the soccer ball around the yard. If your kids have never played soccer, teach them to dribble and kick. However, if they know their way around the soccer field, you can challenge them to a mini-match.
You can also play some Frisbee or bocce ball in your yard. See what games you have in storage and bring them outside this Labor Day.
Go Camping in the Backyard
Does your family enjoy camping? You can have a great time without even leaving home. Set up a campsite in your backyard, complete with a tent, table, and chairs. Then, you can get a fire going and make some s’mores. It’ll be just like going to a campsite, but with a better bathroom inside of your house.
Go on a Hike
Pack a lunch and head to the Park District’s trail system. The system will take you through Fairview Park, Kiwanis Park, the Macon County Conservation District’s Rock Springs Center, and more. Your kids can also bring notebooks and pencils along and write down birds they see. Then, they can compare notes when they get home.
Go Geocaching
If your kids love exploring, consider going geocaching on Labor Day. The city is full of geocaches that you can find by setting the coordinates on your phone. Once you reach the spot, you’ll discover a container. Open it up and sign the log, so the next visitor will know you were there.

Hit the Water
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can spend Labor Day on the water at Lake Decatur. Bring a kayak or stand-up paddleboard for your aquatic adventure. Don’t worry if you don’t have your own. You can also rent a kayak or stand-up paddleboard when you arrive. Then, your family can make some memories out of this gorgeous lake.
These activities have you covered if it’s nice outside. If it rains, you can still have fun by having an indoor dance party, playing some indoor hopscotch, and more. No matter if you’re indoors or outdoors, make a point to stay active this Labor Day. Then, your kids are certain to have a blast and make memories that’ll last a lifetime. It’ll be so much fun that you might even start a new Labor Day tradition.
